Another platform template tool, t-squared, released!
On April 25, 2026, we formally published the first release of another platform template tool to Zenodo. This template is called t-squared, since it’s a template for our templates! Surprisingly, one of the most useful tools that we’ve made for ourselves and others has been templates. So we made this tool to make it easier to create, develop, and manage all our other templates.
Managing templates with a template
t-squared’s website has more details about what it has and how to use it. But, briefly, t-squared has all the features we’ve learned and refined to make developing templates easier and faster. For example, templates created from t-squared have files and instructions for continuous release practices, a basic structure and guides for a Quarto website, and an extensive build pipeline to ensure that we create as good a template as possible.
Why use it?
Our design philosophy is to build for ourselves first means that because we actually use t-squared regularly, we also continually improve on it. The downside to this design principle is that some features of t-squared are suited to our needs. But! We do design it to be useful enough for others as well! At the least, t-squared can be a source of inspiration for you! 😁
Using t-squared
We already have a detailed guide on how to set up and use it, but I’ll show you the basics. How do you use it? You of course need to install the needed dependencies. Then, open a terminal and run the following command:
Terminal
uvx copier copy --trust gh:seedcase-project/t-squared my-templateWhere my-template is the name of the folder you want to create for your new template. Copier will ask a few questions, but otherwise, that’s it!
